Rates black hole in guided bus finances

The County Council has admitted that it does not know whether business rates will be payable for the St.Ives to Cambridge Guided Busway. This has been revealed in an answer to a written question submitted by Liberal Democrat County Councillor Rupert Moss-Eccardt. With the busway two thirds built, the Conservative administration has not yet established whether business rates, which could run to hundreds of thousands of pounds a year, will be payable.

River Mill Public Right of Way - Enquiry set for 19th August

The on-going issue of the right of way at the Eaton Socon River Mill may soon be drawing to a close. After Cambridgeshire County Council supported an application by Lib Dem District and Town Councillor Gordon Thorpe to extend the area covered by the right of way from the edge of the Marina to the edge of the Great Ouse, a public meeting to hear the appeal against the County Council Definitive Map Order will take place in the Jubilee Hall Eaton Socon on the 19th August 2008.

Councillor calls for an end to high visibility speed checks

Over 1300 vehicles in and around St Neots have been "Speed checked" by local PCSO in the last few weeks. Only 10 were found to be exceeding the speed limit and no speeding tickets have been issued to these offenders, Councillors and members of the public were told at a Police liaison meeting held at St Mary's Church Eaton Socon.

Post Office closures: mixed reactions from Lib Dems

Local Liberal Democrats have had a mixed reaction to the announcement of Post Office closures. Many post offices feared to be at risk have not been included and that brings a sense of relief, but for the communities that are hit, the disappointment will be strongly felt.
